Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and is also the most powerful female officer in the history of America. She is a senator and former US senator representing California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal and the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She was praised nationally for her pointed questions of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
